Radical Bakers Gathering in June is our main event of the year, held at Crabapple Community, one of the oldest housing co-ops in the UK. There are 150 adult places and we have sold out the last 2 years. We run a cafe bar and offer fully catered tickets. We have nice canvas spaces with areas devoted to different streams of practical workshops along with live music on the Green Dragon Solar Stage.
So far we have confirmed workshops from: Jane and Seggy – Haybox Cooking, Rox Madeira – Kitchen medicines, Miranda Cowan – Foraging and cooking wild food, Kath Smycki – Bat Detection and Identification, Rosalind Bacon – Intro to Permaculture, Julie Dawson – Upcycled Jewellery, Sara SmpTree – Paper weaving, Stewart Maclachlan – Solar Cooking, Julian Cowderoy – Thermo-electrics, Stella Berg – Home Dental work, Ryan Knight-Fox – wild plant first aid, foraging and cooking, Edwina Staniforth – Cordage/herbalism, Autumn Garner – Herbalism, Neil Hopkins – Green Woodwork, Mike Craig – Green Woodwork, Diane Holness – Seed saving, Mark Anson – Chestnut Gates, Jay Abrahams – Composting Toilets: WET water systems and treebogs, Annie Levy – Fermenting, Monica Barlow – Natural Bee Keeping, John Williamson – Green Architecture, Si – Basic auto mechanics, Blake – Solar Power, batteries and DC wiring. The Bakery has a prep area with catering surfaces, organic Heritage flours, grains, grain mill, proving cupboard, 2 gas-fired and 2 wood-fired ovens and a dedicated team. It is open all weekend for baking sessions including The Team Bake-Off, Milling grains and Sourdough and a Young Bakers session.
In our beautiful, creative Textiles Tent we have: Up-cycling textiles with Julie Henderson; Spinning, Dyeing and Textile sovereignty with Stella Berg, Beginner’s Crochet with Audrey. Under our crafts awnings: Green woodworking with Mike and Neil, Willow crafts with Ann and Raku pottery with Julian. Ed Revill brings his charcoal oven, makes simple no-knead sourdough and talks about Soil building, Biochar and Smallholding.
For children we have organised activities with Precious Days and a Kid’s baking session. Other activities include the Camp Market each lunchtime, Foraging walks, a tour of Crabapple Community and a morning choir.
Confirmed music for Radical Bakers Gathering 2020: On Friday evening we have Truckstop Honeymoon headlining the Green Dragon stage and our Saturday night headliners are The Weirdstring Band, supported by the Bayston Hillbillies. Our stage uses top-quality modern PA equipment and is powered from the sun. More music announcements soon, we have a headline and a support act each night and a DJ on Sunday eve.
Radical Bakers starts late Friday afternoon with crafts sessions and a textiles project circle. The opening intro is Friday 7pm with live music from Truckstop Honeymoon and a bar. Saturday workshops start at 10am with a few early morning baking and yoga sessions before this. They finish at around 6pm with live music from The Weirdstring Band and the Bayston Hillbillies from 8, a bar until midnight and a fire pit and acoustic music til 1am. The workshops on Sunday start at 10am and finish around 3pm, followed by the Team Bake-off, with wood-fired pizza, a bar and a DJ on Sunday evening. You are welcome to arrive from Thurs midday and stay until midday Monday.

There are 150 adult places. There are no day tickets or tickets on the gate. We sold out before the event last year and the year before.
