Maintaining a forest and Orchard with Matthew Bishop

Over the last 19 years Matt has planted nearly two thousand native trees and an orchard on his land in West Tipperary. During this time he has acquired some very useful skills, both theoretical and practical, on maintaining a woodland.

He will be discussing planting and pruning techniques and how one goes about purchasing agricultural land. He also discuss tools required in a woodland and how to use them, as well as sourcing saplings and varieties of trees suitable for different soil types.

Matt’s workshop will also cover how to plant and maintain an orchard, harvesting of fruit and feeding and pruning fruit trees. He will talk about the benefits of hedgerows and multi varieties of tree species to the ecosystem.
